Jake Paul Makes Emotional Ben Askren Plea After Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Win
Jake Paul used his post-fight speech to tell fans to donate to his former opponent Ben Askren following his big win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Saturday night.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer defeated the former middleweight world champion in his toughest test to date, surviving a late onslaught from the 61-fight veteran. After a customary heel promo to rile up the California crowd, he quickly turned to a more serious topic, urging support for Askren.
A Call to Action for a Former Rival
Despite a contentious history following their 2021 bout, Paul has been vocal in his support for Askren since the former MMA champion’s serious health issues became public. It was recently confirmed that Askren requires a lung transplant, and his insurance will not cover the "astronomical costs."
A verified non-profit fund has been launched where people can donate via Help Hope Live to support Askren and his family. In his post-fight speech, Paul vowed to make a significant donation himself, telling Ariel Helwani that both he and his brother, Logan Paul, would be contributing.
Paul's Consistent Support
This follows a passionate speech from Paul at his press conference earlier in the fight week, where he first addressed Askren's situation.
"My prayers go out to him," Paul told media, including Bloody Elbow. "I feel sorry for his family, I can’t imagine what they’re going through. I just hope that he can recover because there’s so much more to life besides fighting and careers. I’m wishing him the best and I’m here if they need any support."
